Introduction to the Recruit Academy

**Scroll to the bottom of the page to download our application.**

We accept applications throughout the year.

Applications accepted now will be for the Spring 2013 academy.

Chief Young and a staff of volunteer instructors conduct two volunteer recruit academies each year. Each academy, one starting in March and the other starting in October, is conducted over a nine-week period. All volunteers are trained in the essentials of fire fighting and first aid.

KCFD 44 accepts applications for those people who would like to be a "resident volunteer". A resident FF lives in one of our 8 stations located in our fire district. The resident receives a semi-furnished room with a common living area to live in at no charge. In exchange for a room, a resident is required to pull three night shifts a week. A shift is from 6:00pm to 6:00am. This is in addition to our Thursday night firefighter and EMS training drills held from 7pm to 10pm. Our volunteers are expected to participate in no less than three of the regular Thursday night drills. Essential skills are honed and new skills are introduced at these weekly drills. Our residents also receive a stipend for pulling shifts.

KCFD 44 also accepts applications from people who live within our district. There is a map of our district boundaries on the 'About the District' page. If you are still wondering if you live within our district, call the main office and we can help you.

Applications are accepted throughout the year for the spring and fall academies. There is a background check performed on each accepted applicant. An Applicant for the Academy must be 18 years of age, have a valid Washington State Driver's License, and a good driving record. The Academy will begin with a strenuous Physical Agility Test. An Applicant must have the physical strength, health and endurance to perform fire suppression and rescue duties. Please download the Physical Agility Handout here to better prepare yourself for the test.

The Recruit Academy is every Tuesday and Thursday evening 7 to 10 pm and 8 am to 5 pm on Saturdays for 9 weeks. It starts around the first week of March and October each year. Preference will be given to applicants living within this District. If you would like to apply to the Recruit Academy you can click on the Volunteer Application link at the bottom of the page, print the entire document and fill in the appropriate information. Please make sure you read the application checklist before you hand in your application. Mail or turn in all sections of the completed application to the address listed at the top of this page.

**Please make sure your application is complete with all signatures**

**In addition to the driving record request form in the application, you also have to get your 3 year driving abstract from the DOL**
